Hello! England 第2回

私は、この二ヶ月で加賀市の美しさに感銘を受けました。イギリスでは都会に住んでいたので、その場所に比べると加賀は新しい環境です。私はこの地域の静穏が好きです。山中温泉で散歩していると、自然の音が聞こえてとても落ち着きます。また、明治時代の歴史を勉強した私にとって、山代温泉の古総湯はすごく興味深い場所です。浴場の中にあるステンドグラスを見るのは初めてでした。また、片山津で素敵な花火を見ました。8月は毎日花火が打ち上げられると知って、本当に驚きました。まるで一ヶ月間続くお祭りみたいです！

In the two months I have been here, Kaga’s beauty has left a deep impression on me. I am used to being in fairly large city, and Kaga is a new environment for me, but I love the tranquility of the area. When walking around Yamanaka I felt a great sense of peace while listening to the nature around me. Yamashiro’s Ko-soyu was fascinating for me as someone who had previously studied Meiji era history. The stained glass inside of the Onsen was something I had never seen before. In Katayamazu I saw the beautiful firework display. I thought how it is amazing that the fireworks take place every single day in August, it’s like a one-month-long festival!

終戦記念日には、平和の鐘を鳴らすことができました。いつまでも貴重な経験として私の心に残ります。

I was also able to take ring the bell for the end of war commemoration day. It will always remain a valuable experience for me.

最近、加賀市において様々なイベントがありましたね。例えば、THUというイベントでは、世界中から有名なクリエイターが集まって、それぞれのキャリアや専門分野などについて興味深い講義を行っていました。参加者はビデオゲームクリエイターからハリウッド映画監督までにわたりました。THUで、お手伝いや通訳できて光栄でした。この経験は本当にありがたいです。

In Kaga there have been many events recently. For example, an amazing event called THU took place in Kaga where creators from all over the world gave interesting lectures about their career. Participants ranged from Video game creators to Hollywood movie directors. It was an honour to assist and interpret at this event. I’m truly grateful to have had this experience.

「やまや畳店」の畳作りワークショップでの豊富な種類の織物・The fantastic range of fabrics available at the Yamaya tatami shop

そして、「やまや畳店」で畳作りの体験をしました。初めての経験でしたが、とても面白かったです。お店の織物の種類の豊富さは素晴らしくて、また、親切なスタッフの説明も非常に良かったです。

I also took part in a tatami making workshop at the Yamaya Tatami shop. This was a new experience for me but it was so much fun. The selection of materials at the shop was truly amazing and the friendly staff explained everything very well.

山中温泉のこいこい祭り・The Koi Koi festival in Yamanaka Onsen

祭りも多かったですね。ぐず焼き祭りを見るのはとても面白くて、楽しい時間を過ごしました。また、こいこい祭りでは加賀市の「visit.kaga.area」という英語版インスタグラムアカウントのために撮影していました。神輿はとても重たそうだったので、町内を運んでいた参加者たちの強さに感動しました。大変そうなのに、皆さんはずっと笑顔で頑張っていました。山中の文化に触れて、地元の方々と交流する良い機会になりました。

There have also been many festivals taking place. The Guzu-Yaki festival was so fun to watch and I had a really good time. Also, I was taking some photos for the Kaga’s English language Instagram page ‘visit.kaga.area’ at the Koi-Koi matsuri. I was so impressed by the strength of all of the participants at the festival. It looked so hard to carry the massive Mikoshi (portable shrines) throughout the town. In spite of this, all the participants were lively and were smiling throughout. It was a great chance to talk to the people of Yamanaka Onsen and engage with the local culture.

片野海岸・Katano Beach

新しくできた「あいうえおの杜」にある「萬松園」と片野海岸に行きました。萬松園の空中回廊はとても楽しくて、幻想的な雰囲気に包まれた独自の施設だと思います。また、片野海岸は多くの若者が集まって写真を撮っていて、絵画のように美しい場所でした。特に海辺の「うみぼうず」というカフェがとても気に入って、まるでビーチ・ボーイズの曲の世界にいるような気分になりました！そして、夕日を見るのも素敵な経験でした。何度も訪れたいと思います。

I also went to Katano beach and the brand new Bansyouen Walkway in the Aiueo forest. The walkway was great fun, it’s a really unique place with a magical atmosphere.Katano beach was picturesque and many young people were there to take pictures. I especially liked the Seaside Café ‘Umibozu’, it made me think I was in the setting of a Beach Boys song! Watching the sunset was beautiful. I think I’m going to go back plenty more times.

短い時間しか経っていませんが、だんだん加賀市に慣れてきてこの地域が好きになりました！

Though only a short amount of time has passed, I feel like I’ve grown more familiar with Kaga and come to love the area！
