こんにちは！2021年10月から加賀市に配属された、シンガポール出身の国際交流員のアガサです。毎月、Hello! Singaporeで、私が感じた加賀市とシンガポールの違いをいろいろ紹介したいと思います。みんなさんぜひ読んでみてくださいね！
Hello! I'm Agatha from Singapore, and I have been Kaga City's Coordinator for International Relations since October 2021. Every month, in Hello! Singapore, I explore some of the many differences between Kaga and Singapore. I hope you will give the column a read!
第1回 はじめまして！（4月25日更新）
こんにちは！Hello! Singaporeへようこそ！去年10月に加賀市に配属された国際交流員のアガサです。今日は自己紹介と生まれ育ったシンガポールを紹介したいと思います。
Welcome to Hello! Singapore. I’m Agatha, and I have been the Coordinator for International Relations here in Kaga City since October last year. In this monthly column, I will be detailing my adventures in Kaga, as well as sharing about Singapore with everyone. For this first post, I’d like to start us off by introducing myself and Singapore.

私はシンガポールのイェール・NUS大学で執筆を中心として、創作を勉強し、2020年に卒業しました。趣味は読書、ゲームをすること、お菓子作りとドラムを叩くことです。日本にいるうちに、和太鼓も叩いてみたいと思います。美術と美術史に興味を持っていて、おいしいものにも目がないです（シンガポール人はみんなそうです！）。日本を含めていろいろな国に行ったことがありますが、こんなに長くに故郷を出るのは初めてです。
I graduated from Yale-NUS College in Singapore in 2020, with a major in Arts and Humanities focusing on creative writing. My hobbies include reading, playing games, baking, and playing the drums. While I’m here, I’d love to also try playing the taiko! I am interested in art and art history, and like all Singaporeans, I am also serious about food. I’ve been to many countries, including Japan, but this is the first time I have been away from home for so long.
故郷といえば、シンガポールについてもっと詳しく紹介したいと思います。
Speaking of home, though, let me share more about Singapore!
シンガポールは小さな都市国家で、総面積が加賀市の二倍しかありません。マレーシアの南にあり、赤道のすぐ近くです。熱帯雨林気候の地域で、四季がない、ずっと夏の石川県みたいに雨が多い島です。蒸し暑いのでたまに気持ち悪くなります。そのため、シンガポール人はショッピングモールなどエアコンがついている所で過ごすのが普通です。
Singapore is a tiny city-state. The whole country is only about twice the size of Kaga! We are located to the south of Malaysia, right above the equator. Singapore thus has a tropical climate and is hot and humid all year round. It’s always summer, and like in Ishikawa, it also rains a lot! The heat can be unpleasant, but many Singaporeans spend a lot of time indoors, with the air-conditioning, like in the shopping malls.
シンガポールは小さいけど、公共交通機関が充実している上に、安全です。どこへも行きやすいので、市内でいろいろなことが楽しめます。例えば、現在、ユニクロが26店舗、スターバックスが130店舗以上あるから、すごく便利です。コロナ禍の前に、イベントや公演もよく開催されました。マルーン5、BTS、ONE OK ROCKなどの海外からの有名なアーティストもシンガポールでライブを行ったことがあります。美術館や博物館などの文化施設もたくさんあり、また、世界中で人気のある作品の展示会もよく開催されます。ちょうど今、進撃の巨人の展示会が開催されています。
Despite how small Singapore is, public transport is frequent and reliable. That makes it easy to get around, and to experience all the fun activities, events, and places within the city. For example, there are 26 UNIQLO stores and over 130 Starbucks stores! We also have a growing local arts scene, which includes many different cultural arts, and famous international artistes like Maroon 5, BTS, and ONE OK ROCK have played shows too. There are also lots of museums, as well as exhibitions featuring popular franchises and artworks. Case in point, an Attack on Titan exhibition is currently running in one of the museums.
シンガポールは楽しいところで、いろいろなものがあるので、もっともっと紹介したいですけど、今回はここで終わります。次回も楽しみにしてくださいね！
Singapore is exciting and diverse and I could write a lot more about it, but I’ll save the rest for next time. I hope you’ll look forward to the next post too!
