第18回 シンガポールの野生動物保護施設
今月、家族が遊びに来ました。妹は動物、特に小さくてかわいい動物が大好きなので、月うさぎの里に連れて行ってうさぎにえさをあげました。8月の上旬に友達と行った時は暑すぎて、うさぎたちは何もする気力もなく、ただ可哀そうに座っているだけでした。でも今回は、うさぎたちがえさを食べに寄ってくるほど元気いっぱいでした。
This month, my family came to visit! My younger sister loves animals, especially small, cute ones, so I took them to Tsuki Usagi no Sato to feed the rabbits. It was good weather for it; when I visited in August with my friend, it was too hot, and the rabbits just lay around sadly without much energy to do anything. This time, though, the rabbits were active enough to come up to us for food!

うさぎたちと時間を過ごすと癒されるから、月うさぎの里に行くのが好きです。猫派の私は、うさぎのことをあまり考えたことがありませんでしたが、今では大好きになりました。うさぎを間近で見ることができるのは、加賀に住んで一番好きなことのひとつです。
I love going to Tsuki Usagi no Sato because spending time with the rabbits is always refreshing. As a staunch cat person, I never thought much about rabbits before, but now I’ve come to love them. Being able to see the rabbits up close has been one of my favorite parts of living in Kaga.

シンガポールで月うさぎの里に最も似ているのはおそらく数少ない猫カフェだと思います。また、シンガポールの有名な野生動物保護施設には、動物と触れ合う機会もいくつかあります。まずは動物園で、300種2800頭以上の動物が飼育されています。特に人気があるのはオランウータンとカンガルーです。特定の時間帯には、追加料金を払えば、シマウマ、ゾウ、キリンなど一部の動物にえさをあげることもできます。
The closest thing to Tsuki Usagi no Sato in Singapore is probably the small number of cat cafes around, but there are some other opportunities to interact with animals at Singapore’s famous wildlife facilities. For starters, there’s the zoo, which has over 2800 animals from 300 species. Some especially popular animals are the orangutans and the kangaroos. At specific times, for an additional fee, you can also feed some of the animals, like the zebras, elephants, and giraffes.

もうひとつの有名なアトラクションであるナイトサファリで、夜行性の動物が飼育されていて、午後7時半から真夜中まで開園しています。世界初の夜行性野生動物公園で、100種以上の動物が900頭近く飼育されています。トラムに乗ったり、ウォーキングトレイルを歩いたりしながら、トラ、サイ、パンゴリンなどの動物を探すことができます。
Another famous attraction is the Night Safari, which houses nocturnal animals and opens from 7.30 PM to midnight. It is the world’s first nocturnal wildlife park, and has almost 900 animals from over 100 species. You can explore on a tram or walking trails to look for animals like tigers, rhinoceroses, and pangolins, all under soft lighting that preserves their natural behaviors.

ほとんどの観光客は動物園とナイトサファリをもう知っているはずだと思いますが、実は他にもリバー・ワンダーズとバード・パラダイスという2つの新しい施設もあります。リバー・ワンダーズには、パンダ、レッサーパンダ、ジャガー、たてがみオオカミなど、世界中の川やその周辺に生息する6000頭以上の動物がいます。5ドル（～540円）で小さい船に乗り、動物を見つけてみることができます。
Most tourists are familiar with the Zoo and the Night Safari, but there are actually two other, newer parks: River Wonders and Bird Paradise. River Wonders houses over 6000 animals that live in or around rivers around the world, such as pandas, a red panda, a jaguar, and a maned wolf. For 5 dollars (~540 yen), you can take a boat ride to try and spot some of these animals yourself!

バード・パラダイスは名の通りの鳥類園で、1971年に建てられた小規模なバードパークに代わって今年開業しました。400種3500羽以上の鳥が10のゾーンに飼育されていて、そのうち8つがウォークスルーできる鳥小屋です。人なつっこい鳥たちが来園者に近づいてくることもあります。
Bird Paradise, as the name suggests, is an aviary, which opened this year to replace the previous, smaller bird park that was built in 1971. It has over 3500 birds from 400 species, housed in 10 zones, of which 8 are walk-through aviaries. Friendly birds might even come up to visitors!

とはいえ、私は小学校の遠足で動物園に行って以来、どの施設にも行ったことがありません。私の鳥恐怖症はさておいても（バード・パラダイスには絶対に行きたくありません）、これらの施設への入場料が高くて、1つの施設の大人チケットで約45ドル（～4900円）もあります。でも、リバー・ワンダーズのレッサーパンダの写真がすごく可愛いので、高くても次回シンガポールに帰るとき行ってみようかなと思っています。
I have to admit, though, that I haven’t been to any of these parks since my school trip to the zoo back in primary school. My fear of birds aside (I would never willingly visit Bird Paradise) entrance to the parks is expensive, costing around 45 dollars (~4900 yen) for an adult ticket to one park. I have been tempted by the pictures of the red panda at River Wonders, though, so maybe I will go visit the next time I go home!
