こんにちは！2021年10月から加賀市に配属された、シンガポール出身の国際交流員のアガサです。毎月、Hello! Singaporeで、私が感じた加賀市とシンガポールの違いをいろいろ紹介したいと思います。みんなさんぜひ読んでみてくださいね！

最終回またいつか会いましょう！

皆さん、こんにちは！国際交流員のアガサです。

とてもさみしいですが、7月いっぱいで任期終了に伴い、加賀市をまもなく離れることになりました。

Hi everyone! It’s Agatha, the Coordinator for International Relations. It is with a heavy heart that I must share that with the conclusion of my contract at the end of July, I will soon be leaving Kaga City.

2021年に加賀市に配属されたことを聞いた時、ワクワクしました。大学時代に金沢で2か月間日本語を勉強したことがあって、石川県内をもっと探検できることを楽しみにしていました。この4年間、本当に素晴らしかったです。大聖寺川沿いでパンケーキを食べたり、鶴仙渓を歩いて海外からのお客さんや訪問団に案内してあげたり、通訳をしながら市の歴史や伝統工芸について学んだりしました。さらに、福井県の池田町で友達とジップラインに乗ることや、毎春に富山県の砺波チューリップフェアで散歩することなど、石川県だけでなく、北陸三県でいろいろ体験できて、うれしく思います。シンガポールという都会で生まれ育った私にとっては、自然と伝統文化に浸る貴重な機会でした。

The pancakes I had by the Daishoji River

When I heard in 2021 that I had been posted to Kaga, I was really excited! I had studied Japanese in Kanazawa for two months in university, and I was looking forward to seeing more of Ishikawa. The last four years have been amazing—I’ve had pancakes by the Daishoji River, led foreign visitors as we strolled along Kakusenkei Gorge, and learned more about the city’s crafts and local history while I interpreted. I’ve not only explored Ishikawa but also the other prefectures in the Hokuriku region; I’ve gone ziplining with friends in Ikeda Town in Fukui, and every spring I’ve also gone to stroll around the Tonami Tulip Festival in Toyama. Having been born and raised in Singapore, a metropolis, it was a precious chance to immerse myself in nature and tradition.

加賀市に来た時は、海外で一人暮らしをして大変ではないか、同僚の話をちゃんと聞き取れるかなど、不安なところもいろいろありました。しかし、最初から皆さんがとても親切にしてくれて、時間をかけて私を導いてくれました。ここで住民の方々をサポートし、またサポートしていただいたことは、大変光栄に思っています。

I had a lot of worries when I came here—like if I would be okay living on my own in a foreign country, or if my Japanese would really be good enough to understand my colleagues. But from the start, everyone has been very kind, and has taken the time to guide me. It has been an immense privilege to support and be supported by the residents here.

加賀市を離れ、次は兵庫県の淡路島へ引っ越しますが、加賀市で作った思い出と絆を必ず大切にして、ぜひまた遊びに来たいと思います。皆さん、ありがとうございました！本当に幸せな4年間でした。またいつか会いましょう！

I will next be moving to Awaji Island in Hyogo, but I will keep the memories and bonds I created in Kaga close to my heart, and will come back to visit sometime for sure. Thank you everyone! It was a wonderful four years. Let’s meet again sometime!
